ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has deployed more than 1,600 police officers across Western Visayas as part of its intensified security operations for the Holy Week.

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, regional director of PRO-6, said a total of 1,686 officers have been assigned to safeguard areas with expected high public turnout, such as churches, transport terminals, seaports, malls and tourist sites.

Iloilo province has the highest number of personnel with 487 officers, followed by Aklan, which includes the world-renowned Boracay Island, with 347 officers.

Other areas covered include Capiz (257), Antique (255), Iloilo City (217) and Guimaras (121).

“Our deployment is in coordination and collaboration with the local government units and other concerned government agencies,” Wanky said, noting they will be supported by barangay officials, tanods (village watchmen), and other community-based force multipliers.

Police assistance desks are also being set up in strategic locations to assist residents and tourists.

Officers will also conduct foot and mobile patrols, establish checkpoints, and implement other law enforcement measures to ensure public safety.

“With many people traveling to visit churches, religious sites, or vacation spots, we recommend that the public familiarize themselves with and save the hotline numbers of police and other government agencies in their destination for immediate assistance if needed,” Wanky added.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has activated comprehensive security plans for the city’s Holy Week observance, including increased patrols, adjusted day-and-night deployments, and strengthened coordination with local authorities and community groups.

The public may contact the ICPO via (033) 335-0299 or 0908-377-0194 for emergencies or assistance.
