TRAFFIC ADVISORY: MMDA warns of Holy Week road closures

Alvin Murcia

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has advised motorists to expect traffic disruptions in several parts of Metro Manila as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) carries out 24-hour road works during Holy Week.

According to the MMDA, the road maintenance schedule will begin at 11:00 PM on 16 April (Tuesday) and will continue until 5:00 AM on 21 April (Sunday). The repair works are scheduled to take advantage of the expected lighter traffic volume during the long holiday.

A total of 25 key road sections will undergo repairs in Quezon City, Makati City, and Pasig City, with some locations set for full lane closures.

Areas affected include:

QUEZON CITY

  • Quirino Highway (southbound), A. Bonifacio Avenue, G. Araneta Avenue

  • Sct. Alcaraz, multiple sections of Payatas Road, Batasan Road

  • Congressional Avenue Extension, Commonwealth Avenue (various stretches)

  • E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue (C5), C5 Katipunan, Fairview Avenue

  • Mindanao Avenue Underpass (both northbound and southbound): Full closure of 1st and 2nd lanes

MAKATI CITY

  • Magallanes Flyover (northbound): Partial closure (upper/lower level of half the bridge)

PASIG CITY

  • C5 Ortigas Flyover (southbound): Full closure

  • Ortigas C5 Interchange (East on-ramp to Southbound off-ramp): Full closure

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes such as the Mabuhay Lanes and to follow directional signs provided by the MMDA during the repair period.

For those affected by the closures along Ortigas and C5, the MMDA recommends that vehicles take the Ortigas flyover straight to Lanuza intersection and then turn left to J. Vargas to reach their destination.

The MMDA also urged the public to plan their trips accordingly to avoid congestion in affected areas.
