Dingalan, Aurora – A total of 27 green sea turtle hatchlings were released along the coastal areas of Barangay Umiray at Sea Beach Resort in this town on 2 April 2025.

The Municipal Government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led the release of the green sea turtles into their natural habitat. With the scientific name Chelonia mydas, these sea turtles are classified as an endangered species.

This means they meet specific “listing criteria,” including “an observed, estimated, inferred, or suspected reduction of at least 50 percent over the last 10 years or three generations.”

Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the release of the hatchlings symbolizes a significant step toward the preservation of marine life and underscores the continued commitment of local stakeholders to environmental conservation.

He also urged local communities to help protect these species and their habitats, as they play a vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

For his part, Jimmy Aberin, head of the DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Dingalan, emphasized the importance of working with local government units and other stakeholders in protecting and preserving marine biodiversity for future generations.
