The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) criticized the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Friday for its continued call for a revolutionary struggle, saying it has been rejected by the Filipino people.
NTF-ELCAC executive director Undersecretary Ernesto Torres Jr. said in a statement that the CPP’s call reveals a “despotically desperate bureaucratic clique” out of touch with reality.
The criticism came as the CPP’s armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), marked its 56th founding anniversary on 29 March.
“As the nation strides forward, leaving behind decades of communist armed violence, the CPP insists on dragging its few followers back, especially the tired and hungry remnants of the NPA, into a dark, discredited past,” Torres said.
He added that the CPP is unable to accept its decline and the decline of the NPA, which he described as a “fragmented and depleted force.”
Torres also rejected the CPP’s claim that its isolation is due to “fascist militarization” by state forces, saying that people now see security forces as “partners in progress and stability.”
He urged remaining NPA members to reject orders from CPP leaders and rejoin mainstream society, saying the government’s unity, peace and reconciliation programs remain open.
“The government’s unity, peace and reconciliation programs remain open. Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration and Amnesty programs are geared towards helping former rebels rebuild their lives and be empowered through livelihood and reintegration support that contributes to stronger, safer, and more resilient communities,” Torres said.
