The Bureau of Immigration Intelligence Division (BIID) reported the successful apprehension of an unauthorized and overstaying foreign individual.
BIID operatives identified the foreign national as Khasta Rahman, 42, a Pakistani national who was apprehended at a convenience store along Antonio Arnaiz Avenue in Brgy. San Lorenzo, Makati City.
Authorities claimed that during verification, it was discovered that Rahman was already overstaying his visa and lacked the required documents. When asked to present his passport, he failed to do so, leading to his immediate arrest.
According to Fortunato Manahan, Jr., Chief of the Intelligence Division, the operation was part of BI's ongoing effort to locate foreign nationals who are breaking Philippine immigration regulations. "We remain vigilant in monitoring and apprehending those who abuse their stay in the country. Our intelligence teams work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift action," Manahan stated.
Rahman was taken to the BI Main Office for legal proceedings, medical clearance, and documentation after being informed of his constitutional rights. After a commitment order was issued, he was transferred to the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado reiterated the organization's dedication to upholding immigration laws, stating, "The Bureau will not put up with transgressions of our immigration laws. Foreign nationals must comply with the legal requirements of their stay in the Philippines, or they will face deportation."
The BI chief disclosed that the operation was initiated following intelligence information from an anonymous complainant. The subject will face deportation, and eventually, his name will be included in the BI blacklist, banning him from re-entering the country.
