The Department of Transportation (DoTr) is taking a step back to move forward.
Amid mounting concerns from transport groups, the agency has created a special committee to reassess the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP) and ensure it works for all stakeholders.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon signed Special Order 2025-152 on Monday, establishing the Special Committee for the Review of the PTMP.
The panel — composed of key DoTr officials, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC) — has been tasked with engaging stakeholders, reviewing the program’s progress, and identifying roadblocks. Their recommendations are expected next week.
The PTMP envisions a more sustainable and efficient public transport system by shifting to Euro 4-compliant or electric vehicles.
While its goals promise safer and greener commuting, questions linger over affordability and inclusivity, particularly for small operators struggling with the transition.
