The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has confirmed the rearrest of a person deprived of liberty (PDL) who escaped from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan 22 years ago.

In a statement, BuCor revealed that the escapee, whose identity is being withheld, was apprehended on March 22 in Sitio Bunga, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

The Bureau explained that the individual had been serving a sentence for theft at the IPPF Inagawan Sub-Colony but escaped on 9 September. He had remained at large until his recent rearrest.

The operation to apprehend the fugitive was led by the IPPF Fugitive Recovery Team from Palawan, under the leadership of IPPF Superintendent C/Supt. Garry A. Garcia.

The BuCor also noted that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Police Intelligence Unit (PIU) of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (PPO) and the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. expressed support for joint law enforcement efforts, stating that such collaborations are key to the successful apprehension of fugitives.
