Fire breaks out on cargo vessel in Batangas

A fire raged aboard a cargo vessel sailing northwest of Limbones Island, Nasugbu, Batangas, on Sunday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

In its incident report, the PCG said its personnel aboard the BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) rescued seven crew members, including the vessel’s captain, from the cargo ship MV CASTPHILL XV around 4:27 a.m. on March 30.

“At approximately 7:59 AM, BRP Boracay safely arrived at Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila, where the rescued crew members were turned over to the Coast Guard Medical Dispensary for further medical evaluation,” the PCG added.

An investigation was immediately launched to identify the cause of the fire incident.

Further, Transport Secretary Vince Dizon assured the public of his commitment to ensuring maritime safety through all agencies under his department, especially the PCG.

The PCG also reaffirmed its “commitment to ensuring maritime safety and responding promptly to emergencies at sea.”
