Authorities on Sunday arrested a man who fired indiscriminately after an altercation with motorcycle riders in Sitio Boso-Boso, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City. Reports said that there were no fatalities during the shooting.
Videos circulating on social media showed a man exiting his SUV and being confronted by a group of motorcycle riders for unknown reasons. The videos also depicted bystanders attempting to intervene as the riders appeared to overwhelm the man.
According to the videos, after the suspect was cornered, he drew a gun and shot the rider in front of him, followed by multiple shots at the other riders involved.
After the shooting, the suspect reportedly discovered his wife had been struck by a stray bullet. He then carried her to his SUV and fled.
Additional videos showed Antipolo City Police officers, who were conducting checkpoints along Sumulong Highway, apprehending the suspect after a brief car chase.
Police reports identified the suspect as Kenneth Alajar Bautista of Quezon City and reports also said that there were two others wounded in the shooting aside from the suspect’s wife.
Authorities also disclosed that one of the victims sustained gunshot wounds in his head.
Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares confirmed the incident in a social media post, saying that the victims — including the suspect’s wife — were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The mayor urged citizens to remain calm in such situations.
“Cool heads are needed on the road,” Ynares wrote on his Facebook page. “The suspect who shot his road adversaries has been caught. Because of the number of times he fired his gun, even his wife was hit.”
