Pasig City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya has vowed to prioritize additional assistance for single parents and families with children with mental health conditions if she wins in the upcoming midterm elections.
Discaya emphasized the importance of helping sectors that are most in need, especially amid the continuous rise in the prices of goods and public services.
"Life is difficult now. If regular families are struggling with the high cost of living, it is even harder for single parents raising children on their own, and for parents of children with conditions like ADHD and autism," she said.
Discaya personally understands these challenges because all four of her children have ADHD.
"I understand the hardship experienced by parents of children with ADHD. I know their needs and how expensive therapies and other medical requirements for their children can be," she added.
If elected, Discaya will advocate for greater medical assistance and services for children with mental health challenges.
"I will push for more medical assistance for children with mental health conditions. Treatments and therapy are too expensive, so there should be government support to help their families," she said.
The 48-year-old philanthropist is also advocating for additional benefits for single parents, including higher discounts on basic goods such as food and grocery items, to help them cope with rising prices.
"One of my priorities is to provide additional aid for single parents in Pasig," she said.
Discaya also emphasized that it is the responsibility of local leaders to ensure no one is left behind in development.
"While every citizen has equal rights, we must recognize that parents of children with mental health conditions, as well as single parents who have no partner in raising their children, have additional expenses and obligations," she said.
Discaya assured Pasigueños that under her leadership, families in need of extra support would receive the proper attention from the local government.
"During my term, I will make sure that the needs of families requiring additional support are met. This is my promise to the people of Pasig, especially to single parents and those with children with mental health conditions," she added.
Discaya is also confident that her experience and track record will improve the lives of Pasigueños.
"I am confident that with my experience, the lives of Pasigueños will be better. My track record will speak for itself. There will be no politicking — hard work, faith in God, and self-confidence have been my pillars in rising in life," she said.
