BAREFOOT THEATRE COLLABORATIVE PRESENTS ‘WE AREN’T KIDS ANYMORE’

Coming of age can be a tricky time, especially since life does not come with a manual. Now there’s a musical that articulates what the experience is really like

As its season opener for 2025, Barefoot Theatre Collaborative (Barefoot) is staging the uplifting coming-of-age musical We Aren’t Kids Anymore this coming May. The show digs deep into the messy reality of growing up and fitting in, told from the point-of-view of five young people. Written by Drew Gasparini, the Manila staging will be directed by Rem Zamora.

The show features a talented all-star cast of multi-hyphenates, tasked with articulating that point in life where you see that who you thought you’d be is different from who you’re actually becoming. Singer and actress Gab Pangilinan is coming off of a successful run of shows and roles, which includes Desdemona in Othello, Elsa in Disney’s Frozen In Concert, Roxanne in Mula Sa Buwan, and a solo Valentine concert. Myke Salomon is an accomplished theater actor, singer, composer, and musical director. Maronne Cruz was last seen in CAST PH’s Othello. Rounding out the cast are Luigi Quesada and Gio Gahol.

We Are Not Kids Anymore features a poem by Keith White with orchestrations and vocal arrangements by Justin Goldner & Drew Gasparini. Joining Zamora in the creative team are Salomon and Farley Asuncion as musical directors, Jomelle Era as movement director, Joey Mendoza as production designer, Hershee Tantiado as associate production designer, D Cortezano as lighting designer and technical director, and Aron Roca as sound designer. Barefoot Theatre Collaborative is the company behind the original productions of Mula sa Buwan, Pride Plays and Bar Boys: A New Musical, and the restaging of the classic musical The Last Five Years.

Barefoot’s We Are Not Kids Anymore takes up the hard conversations for anyone who has ever felt lost, stuck, or unsure of the way forward. Through story and song. The show will run for four weeks, from 2 to 25 May at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati. The show will run for 90 minutes with no intermission. Tickets, priced at P3,200 (gold) and P2,700 (silver), are available via Ticket2Me.net. Special discounts are available for opening weekend tickets.
