Araneta City powers up sustainability efforts for Earth Hour 2025

Immersive activities and green initiatives highlight this year’s campaign

This March 2025, Araneta City reaffirms its commitment to global sustainability by joining the Earth Hour movement, transforming the annual tradition into an immersive experience that promotes environmental responsibility, energy conservation, and biodiversity awareness.

Under the theme "Move for the Future," the City of Firsts is going beyond the symbolic switch-off, encouraging the community to take concrete steps toward a greener future.

Switching off for a brighter tomorrow

On 22 March, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, Araneta City will power down in sync with millions around the world for the WWF Earth Hour Switch Off. Landmark establishments, streets, and major areas within the city will go dark as a symbol of solidarity for sustainability efforts worldwide.

“For Araneta City, Earth Hour is more than a symbolic switch-off,” Marjorie Go, VP for Marketing, said. “It’s a call to action, a reminder that every small choice we make can add up to real change.”

Immersive experiences for environmental awareness

In the days leading up to Earth Hour, Araneta City is hosting interactive activities designed to educate and inspire action:

📍 Ali Mall – "Unplug and Play: Geo Quest" (17-20 March)
A fun, interactive experience blending adventure with beloved Filipino childhood games, where participants will navigate through a forest trail, passing the Patintero Clearing, Snake and Ladder Jungle, and Piko Shrub.

📍 Gateway Mall 2 – "Quantum Wildlife: The Flight of Haring Ibon" (22-30 March)
A visual storytelling experience featuring breathtaking images of the Philippines’ endangered bird species, created in collaboration with wildlife photographer and filmmaker Vinz Pascua of Haring Ibon PH.

📍 Farmers Plaza – "SustainaBILIty: A POP QC Eco Fair" (21-23 March)
In partnership with the Quezon City government, this eco fair will highlight local businesses championing sustainable products, alongside eco talks on resource efficiency and plastic-free solutions.

Running for a cause

On 16, 23, and 30 March, Araneta City's aRUNeta Eco Run Club will encourage fitness enthusiasts to run for the environment. With every purchase of an official run club shirt, participants will pledge a bamboo sapling to the J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF) Green Project, supporting reforestation efforts in Rizal.

“Beyond simply turning off the lights in Araneta City, we are encouraging everyone to turn on their sense of responsibility. The power to create a brighter future belongs to each of us. So for this year's Earth Hour, we are not just observing. We are moving for the future, and we invite everyone to move with us,” Go concluded.
