Japanese envoy, Supreme Court Chief Justice reaffirm strong judicial ties

On 18 March 2025, Japanese Ambassador ENDO Kazuya paid a courtesy call on Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo to discuss bilateral cooperation and shared legal principles.

The two officials reflected on the long-standing friendship between Japan and the Philippines, which will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic normalization next year. They reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law, a fundamental value shared by both nations.

Chief Justice Gesmundo expressed gratitude for Japan’s ongoing support, particularly in strengthening the Philippine judiciary. He highlighted Japan’s contributions, including the construction of the Philippine Judicial Academy Training Center in Tagaytay City and the JICA short-term training program for judicial officers.

Both leaders agreed to continue fostering judicial cooperation and reinforcing the Philippines-Japan partnership in legal and governance initiatives.
