Makati Mayor and senatorial candidate Abby Binay visited several municipalities of Batangas yesterday, holding discussions with mayors and other government officials.
In meetings in Bauan, Cuenca and Batangas City, Binay highlighted her priority legislation, including providing regular salaries and benefits for barangay officials and insurance coverage for disaster response and rescue workers.
Bauan officials, led by Vice Mayor Ronald Cruzat, welcomed Binay to the Bauan Municipal Hall. She expressed her gratitude for the warm reception, noting that her grandfather, Diego Binay, the father of her own father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, hailed from Bauan.
She paid a courtesy visit to Batangas City Mayor Beverly Dimacuha and met with Cuenca Mayor Alexander Magpantay and other local officials and employees.
Earlier, Binay emphasized her commitment to be the voice of local government units in the Senate.
“I will bring my experience as a mayor to the Senate to provide a local perspective when drafting policies and laws that will impact LGUs,” she said.
Binay also pointed out the need for practical, sensible legislation that considers the financial capabilities of LGUs, noting how national laws often burden them. She gave the example of the lack of national funding for the operation of super health centers built by the Department of Health.
She was scheduled to meet with officials in Alitagtag, Lemery, Calaca, Lipa City, Tanauan and Sto. Tomas.
