The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed it assisted in carrying out a suspension order early Friday, 14 March 2025, against Urdaneta City Mayor Julio Parayno III and Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno.

Police Brigadier General Lou F. Evangelista, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1), personally oversaw the deployment of police personnel to ensure the peaceful and orderly enforcement of the order, which was requested by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The suspension order was implemented under the guidance of DILG Regional Director Jonathan Paul M. Leusen, Jr.

The PNP stated that officers were strategically positioned to provide security and prevent disruptions or resistance during the operation. They also noted that all actions were carried out according to legal procedures.

“The peaceful implementation of the suspension order reflects our mutual commitment in maintaining peace and order not only in Urdaneta City but throughout the entire Ilocos region,” PBGEN Evangelista said. “This is a result of understanding, proper communication, and coordination among the involved parties. Rest assured that we will remain non-partisan and will uphold our mandate to protect and serve the community with utmost discipline, integrity, and professionalism.”

DAILY TRIBUNE is seeking comment from the DILG Regional Office 1 and the concerned parties about the suspension and its possible ramifications.
