Pampanga Capitol to provide free WiFi to visitors

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Provincial Government and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is providing free WiFi to all visitors of the Pampanga Capitol Building, as well as tourists who frequent the area.

According to a social media post by Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, the project Free WiFi For All aims to make WiFi accessible to those who pass by the capitol building, as well as people who spend their days at the capitol.

Pineda said that the realization of the said project is through Republic Act 10929 or the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act. He added that this would provide people who conduct their businesses at the capitol building access to the internet, providing seamless transactions.

He cited that the WiFi routers and switches were installed at the provincial library as one of the access points, as well as the Arnedo Park of the Capitol Building grounds, making the internet readily available even outside the building.

The said free WiFi has a minimum committed info rate of 100 Mbps and has a maximum capacity of 200 Mbps per user, giving internet access to students who are doing research and projects, people who are processing government requirements, gamers who want to play online games and seniors who want to watch the news.

“Kabalens only need to turn on their WiFi settings and find the 'Free WiFi for All' that would redirect them to a home page. They only need to authenticate, and after a few seconds, they are immediately connected to the internet,” Pineda said.

But the governor cited that despite capable of accommodating hundreds of users, there are still limitations to ensure everyone who is connected would use the internet efficiently.

This endeavor of the DICT and Provincial Government would entice more Kapampangans to avail services of the government at the capitol, while also boosting the tourism aspect of the area.
