Cebu+ initiative enhances airport-to-seaport connectivity

A new initiative aimed at improving travel connectivity in the Philippines was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on 28 February 2025, between Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Mactan Wharf Corporation, and The Supercat Fast Ferry Corporation.

The partnership, known as Cebu+, is expected to enhance airport-to-seaport connectivity, making it easier for travelers to reach major island destinations from Cebu. This initiative follows the launch of Cebu Connects in June 2024, which improved air-to-air transfers. With Cebu+, MCIA is further solidifying its vision to become the country's Main Tourism Transfer Gateway.

Under this system, passengers arriving at MCIA will have access to a seamless transfer service via shuttle from the airport to Mactan Wharf, just a five-minute drive away. From there, they can immediately board a Supercat ferry to key destinations such as Bohol. Future expansions are set to include Siquijor, Camotes, and other islands.

“After launching Cebu Connect — our air to air connectivity product in June, now we have Cebu+, the air to sea connectivity to the islands around Cebu. This is the second pillar of our strategy to be the main and premier gateway for tourism in the Philippines,” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC).

The MOA signing was led by Aldwin Uy, Deputy Chief Operations Officer of ACAC; Eugene Erik Lapasaran Lim, President of Mactan Wharf; and Shane Antony Arante, General Manager of Supercat. The three parties affirmed their commitment to delivering efficient, safe, and convenient inter-island connections, starting with Cebu to Bohol and later expanding to more destinations.
