Brigadier General Peter Burgonio has been named the new commander of the Presidential Security Command (PSC), responsible for safeguarding Malacañang and the First Family.
His appointment follows a change of command on Wednesday, led by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr.
Burgonio replaced Major General Nelson Morales of the Philippine Air Force, who has been reassigned to the Air Education, Training, and Doctrine Command.
The Palace earlier denied that the leadership change was related to concerns over Chinese spies infiltrating their ranks.
Brawner Jr. emphasized the "evolving security challenges" faced by the PSC and advised personnel to remain vigilant in their duties, especially in light of the recent arrest of Chinese spies by the AFP and the National Bureau of Investigation.
