For a long time, Sam Milby and Catriona Gray were seen as the perfect couple—a fairytale love story that had led to an engagement. But fairytales don’t always end the way people expect.
When news of their separation surfaced, the public was left in shock. Whispers of possible reasons began circulating, and one name unexpectedly got dragged into the narrative — Moira Dela Torre.
For the most part, Sam remained silent. But now, he’s breaking that silence— not to dwell on the heartbreak, but to set the record straight.
"But I think any breakup is not easy," Sam admitted, his voice heavy with emotion. He told during his recent interview with "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda." "It was a fairytale relationship in so far as we were concerned. The queen had found a prince, and they were engaged." And then, suddenly, it was over.
"One morning, we woke up to find out that the engagement had been broken. We were distraught."
The pain was still fresh, and moving on was proving to be a difficult process. "Honestly, not well," he admitted when asked how he was handling it. "And like I said, any breakup is not easy. It’s hard to talk about yung breakup namin. It’s something I didn’t wanna talk about."
One of the most persistent rumors that followed their split was the involvement of singer Moira Dela Torre. Speculation ran wild, with many assuming she had something to do with the breakup. But Sam firmly shut those rumors down.
"People wanna connect so many things and believe so many things na walang katotohanan," he said, clearly frustrated by the false accusations.
"And I felt the need to clear yung issue na there was no third party, and yung sinasabi na si Moira yung third party."
For him, it was unfair that Moira’s name was even being mentioned. "I wanted to make that clear, but it’s something I actually didn’t wanna talk about."
Sam and Catriona had always been private about their relationship, and even in separation, he wanted to maintain that respect.
"Sa amin ni Cat, we’ve always been private about our relationship," he continued. “And as respect sa kanya, I don’t still feel comfortable talking about our relationship."
Sam refused to go into detail about the reason behind the breakup, but he didn’t deny how painful it had been.
"Well, the people are thinking that it is easy. It’s been very hard, honestly,” he confessed. "And like I said, I really don’t wanna talk about any details about the relationship."
But if there was one thing he wanted to emphasize, it was that Moira—or anyone else—had nothing to do with it.
"But like I said, there was never any third party. Yung sinasabi ng mga tao na si Moira yung third party, as in walang katotohanan."
"You can believe what you want, you can say what you want, but everyone knows, in this situation, there’s no truth to that."
Sam took a deep breath, his voice thick with emotion. "It wasn’t only mag-boyfriend-girlfriend kami, we were engaged. And to have that not pushed through, it’s been really rough, honestly."
Though he had kept a strong front, the pain was undeniable. "And I think it’s better to be honest about it. I didn’t expect to be emotional right now, I’m sorry," he said, his voice cracking.
Despite everything, Sam wasn’t looking to dwell on the past. But he knew that the more he talked about it, the more people would twist his words.
"The more you talk about any issue, mas maraming bala yung mga tao to use against you, and I don’t wanna give," he said.
"There’s no point. I have so much love and respect on both sides, I wanna believe, but it hasn’t been easy at all."
It wasn’t the ending he or Catriona had envisioned, but it was the reality they had to face. And now, Sam is simply taking it one day at a time, hoping for healing in the midst of heartbreak.
