Wanted SoKor national behind bars

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Monday that another South Korean national wanted in Seoul, South Korea for telecommunications fraud has been arrested.

BI Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado identified the fugitive as Park Seungeon, who was arrested on 27 February along Bradco Avenue in Parañaque City by operatives from the BI Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU).

Viado said the arresting officers were acting on a mission order he issued following an intelligence report from the South Korean government, which tracked Park’s crimes and presence in the Philippines.

“He has been hiding in the country for over two years to avoid being arrested and prosecuted for his crimes, making him an overstaying alien,” the BI chief said.

Meantime, Rendel Ryan Sy, chief of the BI-FSU, revealed that Park was the subject of an Interpol red alert issued over a year ago, following the issuance of his warrant of arrest by the Incheon District Court in Seoul, where he was charged with fraud.

Korean authorities allege that Park was part of a telecom fraud network that fraudulently collected and embezzled more than 20.1 million won, or about US$14,000, from a victim by offering a fictitious low-interest debt consolidation loan.
