National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief P/Bgen Anthony Aberin commended Pat. Rowell Christian J. Manasala of Manila Police District-PS 5 (Remedios PCP), who is admitted to the Chinese General Hospital after being severely injured while responding to a complaint of illegal drag racing early Monday morning at Adriatico, Malate, Manila.
Aberin was accompanied by MPD director P/Bgen Thomas Ibay and Dr. Samuel Ang, CGH hospital director, when he handed over a plaque of commendation and a medal for the heroic display of courage while in the line of duty.
To recall, Manasala was one of the six night-duty officers who responded during an illegal drag race where participants, after seeing the police, scrambled to flee.
In an attempt to escape, the suspect rammed the victim, resulting in a broken right leg, which was treated by inserting a metal (titanium) brace that will remain inside his leg for a two-year treatment before it is removed.
Aside from the medals and plaque, Manasala also received two envelopes containing cash.
Aberin said that the bravery and sacrifice of Manasala reflects the dedication to duty of a true police officer, and the PNP is proud of him.
“The PNP is very proud of what you have shown, and for that, I will see to it you will be prioritized for a promotion,” Aberin told Manasala.
The CGH has given free medical treatment to Manasala as part of the Memorandum of Agreement between the CGH and MPD.
