The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) continues to expand its role in both the sports and social welfare sectors, renewing its partnership with the Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) while also extending aid to marginalized communities in Occidental Mindoro.
PCSO reaffirmed its support for the local horse racing industry through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed with Philracom at the PCSO Main Office in Mandaluyong City on Friday, 21 February 2025.
Under the agreement, PCSO General Manager Melquiades A. Robles confirmed the agency's commitment to providing prizes and trophies for select races organized by PCSO and Philracom throughout the year. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with PCSO’s mission of supporting sports tourism while benefiting more Filipinos through gaming revenue.
Philracom Chairman Aurelio P. De Leon expressed his gratitude to PCSO, highlighting the importance of collaboration in sustaining horse racing as a vital part of the country’s sports and entertainment industry.
Beyond racing events, the MOA also includes a joint advertising and publicity campaign to promote both horse racing and PCSO’s gaming products, reinforcing the agencies’ shared vision of boosting sports tourism and responsible gaming.
On the humanitarian front, PCSO turned over 500 ChariTimba food packs to Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, in a ceremony held at its main office on Monday, 17 February 2025.
PCSO Director Jennifer Guevara personally handed over the donation to Paluan Mayor Abelardo Pangilinan, ensuring that the assistance reaches those most in need. Paluan, a fourth-class municipality, relies primarily on agriculture, aquaculture, and livestock raising for livelihood.
"These food packs will be distributed to the marginalized in our area. This assistance will help families allocate their limited budget for other essential needs aside from food." Mayor Pangilinan said.
The donation is part of PCSO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aimed at improving the quality of life for disadvantaged communities.
Whether through supporting the horse racing industry or providing direct assistance to communities, PCSO continues to demonstrate its dedication to public service. By fostering partnerships and prioritizing social welfare programs, the agency remains a key player in both the sports and charity sectors, ensuring that its initiatives positively impact more Filipinos.
