Japan’s Defense Minister Nakatani Gen met with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, 24 February 2025, at the Study Room of Malacañan Palace in Manila, highlighting the strong and long-standing partnership between the two nations.
During their meeting, President Marcos acknowledged Japan’s significant contributions to the Philippines’ defense infrastructure and expressed optimism about further strengthening ties amid evolving regional dynamics.
Minister Nakatani emphasized the deepening defense and security cooperation between Japan and the Philippines under the leadership of President Marcos and Japanese Prime Minister Ishida. He noted that his three-day visit underscores Japan’s commitment to bolstering bilateral relations.
As part of his visit, Nakatani toured Basa Air Base, where he inspected the air surveillance radar system provided by Japan. The defense minister reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to supporting the Philippines in enhancing its defense capabilities.
The meeting between the two officials is expected to pave the way for greater collaboration in security and regional stability efforts.
