Thousands are expected to gather in what the Hakbang ng Maisug Cebu has dubbed as the Cebu People’s Indignation Rally against impeachment, corruption, oppression, illegal drugs, and criminality on 22 February.
Hakbang ng Maisug Cebu convenor Ernest Abines in a press conference cited the success of the Cebu People’s Caravan held 19 February.
“The caravan was spontaneous and thousands of Cebuanos joined the protest action,” Abines told media.
Expected to attend the coming mass action are former President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, PDP Cebu gubernatorial candidate Pamela Baricuatro, former Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, former Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, former LapuLapu City Mayor Paz Radaza and other local candidates.
Abines confirmed the attendance of FPRRD.
The recent people’s caravan mobilized around 150 vehicles and 300 motorcycles which kicked off in Mandaue City, proceeded to the towns of Consolacion and Liloan in the north then back to Cebu City and Talisay.
Abines said the big number of the people were opposed to the impeachment of VP Sara and this will be evident not only through social media noises but physically and concrete actions like the People’s Indignation Rally.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and senatorial candidates, former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez, Representative Rodante Marcoleta, and Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, were invited to the rally.
“Maisug-Cebu, in its quest for transparency, accountability, peace and security, as core policies in governance and nation-building, is holding this indignation rally relative to the railroaded impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, the bastardization of the 2025 budget, the suppression of free speech, the return of a thriving drug trade and the resulting rise in criminality, narco politics, and all other government abuses of the BBM government on 22 February,” Abines said.
