The remains of PNP Director Colonel Pergentino “Bong” Malabed, who was killed in the 29 January collision between an American Airlines jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, D.C., will be returned to the Philippines next week.
In a heartfelt post, his widow, Rio Malabed, shared details regarding the wake and inurnment of the late public servant:
“To those who would like to pay their last respects in honoring the life of my husband, PCOL PERGENTINO N MALABED, JR, here are the details of his wake and inurnment. Viewing of Colonel Malabed’s remains will take place at the Philippine National Police Mortuary in Camp Crame from February 21 to February 23. For our families and friends, thank you for your prayers and love but certainly, your presence means so much to us during this time.”
His remains are scheduled to be transferred to Manila Memorial Park, in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, on 24 February. The cremation will take place on 25 February.
Colonel Malabed Jr. served as the chief of the PNP Supply Management Division. At the time of the tragic incident, he was on official travel, fulfilling his duty as a dedicated police officer committed to ensuring the security and operational readiness of the PNP.
The fatal collision occurred when an American Eagle passenger flight from Wichita, Kansas, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, struck a military helicopter with three personnel aboard. The impact sent both aircraft plunging into the Potomac River, just three miles from the White House, claiming the lives of all on board. There were 67 casualties in total.
The Philippine National Police has expressed its deep sorrow over the untimely passing of Colonel Malabed, honoring his unwavering dedication to public service. His colleagues and loved ones will gather in the coming days to pay their final respects and celebrate his life of service.
