The Philippine national men's curling team defeated South Korea, 5-3, in the final to clinch the gold medal in the ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China Friday morning.

This is the country's first medal of any color in this regional multi-sport event since making a debut in the Sapporo Winter Games in Japan back in 1990.

It was also redemption for the Filipino curlers, composed of Marc Angelo Pfister, Alan Beat Frei, Christian Patrick Haller, Enrico Gabriel Pfister, and Benjo Delarmente, after losing to the Koreans, 1-6, in their first match last Sunday.

So far, the Philippines is also the only Southeast Asian country to win a gold medal in the Asian Winter Games as Paul Vieuxtemps of Thailand clinched a bronze medal in men's freestyle skiing.
