President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. honored Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile on his 101st birthday, which coincides with Valentine’s Day.

“Today, we celebrate a man and his life — a life that, by any measure, has been truly well-lived,” Marcos said in his message.

He described Enrile as a statesman, legal luminary, and exemplary public servant who “has not only witnessed history but has actively shaped it.”

Marcos also highlighted Enrile’s vast wisdom and experience, which he continues to share with the administration.

“The fact that his natal day coincides with Valentine’s Day reminds us that the sharpness of his mind is equaled only by the warmth of his heart for the Filipino people,” he added.

“Happy Birthday, Secretary Tata Johnny Ponce Enrile! We are truly blessed to have you on our team as our Chief Presidential Legal Counsel.”

Enrile has served under both Marcos administrations and played a pivotal role in the political landscape during and after the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

He was the Defense Minister during the Marcos Sr. administration and previously held key government positions, including Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs (1966-1968), Undersecretary for Finance (1966-1968), and Secretary of the Department of Justice (1968-1970).

In 1992, he was elected to the House of Representatives, representing Cagayan’s 1st District until 1995. He then served multiple terms as a senator, including as the 21st Senate President from 2008 to 2013.

As Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, Enrile is responsible for providing legal advice and assistance to the President, along with other duties as assigned.
