The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses have suffered another setback ahead of UAAP Season 87, as outside hitter Xyza Gula has been ruled out due to a lingering injury sustained in December of last year.

Gula suffered a displaced fracture on her tailbone after a bad fall and was initially expected to recover within five to eight weeks, as advised by the team’s medical staff. She remained part of UST’s plans and even joined the squad’s training camp in Japan last January.

However, despite undergoing further evaluations and X-ray exams, the pain has persisted, preventing her from fully participating in the team’s training sessions.

“Her health and her future as an athlete are far more important than our campaign,” the team announced, confirming Gula’s exclusion from the final lineup for the upcoming UAAP season.

The UST Women’s and Girls’ Volleyball Team officially released a statement regarding Gula’s condition on their Facebook page.

This marks yet another major blow to the team’s championship aspirations, as they had already lost Jonna Perdido earlier due to a left ACL tear. With these key players sidelined, the Golden Tigresses face a tough challenge as they prepare for the upcoming season.

UST winger Jonna Perdido is ruled out of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament after suffering a complete ACL tear on her left knee.

Fans and supporters continue to rally behind Gula, wishing her a full and speedy recovery.
