Marcos denies involvement in VP Sara's impeachment

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a press conference at Malacañan Palace on 5 February 2025. The president said he wanted to fulfill his promise of being more accessible to the media and providing a platform for more in-depth discussions beyond brief ambush interviews. He addressed the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, explaining that while he initially discouraged impeachment efforts due to their impracticality and the government’s other priorities, independent groups, including the Makabayan bloc and religious organizations, proceeded with filing complaints. He reiterated that once impeachment complaints are filed, both the House of Representatives and the Senate are constitutionally obligated to process them, leaving them no choice but to proceed.
