A new wave of young and independent stars is set to take over the movie scene with the upcoming zombie thriller Lisik Origin Point.

Starring Nika De Guzman, Grace Rosas Tayo, Jeremiah Allera, and Rosemarie Smith, with the special participation of Ramon Christopher, the film follows a terrifying outbreak where a mysterious infection turns their school into a nightmare, transforming students into flesh-eating monsters.

While the teaser has drawn comparisons to the Korean hit All of Us Are Dead, director and writer John Renz Cahilig clarified that his film is not a copycat.

“It has a similar setting, but it’s not the same. This is not a copycat, nor is it inspired by the Korean film,” Cahilig explained in a press interview.

He acknowledged the initial reaction from viewers but assured them that Lisik Origin Point has a unique twist that sets it apart.

“The only similarity is zombies and a school setting, but our characters are very different. In All of Us Are Dead, the story is chaotic, but in our film, the characters have a strong connection that complements the entire movie. We have our own story to tell,” he added.

Independent film producer Dominic Orlajo shared that the concept for Lisik Origin Point was developed during the pandemic. He believes that releasing it on 19 February, just after Valentine’s Day, is perfect for Gen Z and millennial audiences.

“Gen Z and millennials love going to the movies on Valentine’s Day. Siyempre, kapag natakot sila, pwede silang yumakap sa mga partners nila,” he said with a laugh.

(Of course, when they get scared, they can hug their partners)

“I also believe that young audiences today enjoy extreme movies, and since zombie films are a favorite genre, I think this movie is perfect for them.”

The film also incorporates Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), enhancing the visual experience and bringing its thrilling zombie outbreak to life.

Lisik Origin Point is set to hit cinemas nationwide on 19 February, 2025.
