Kaya FC-Iloilo aims to end its campaign on a high note when it faces Lion City Sailors of Singapore in the Shopee Cup men’s football tournament tonight at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.
Kick-off is set at 8:30 p.m. with Kaya hoping to end its five-game losing streak in this prestigious regional tourney that is also known as the ASEAN Club Championship.
The Filipino side is coming off a heartbreaking 1-2 loss to Borneo FC Samarinda last 23 January at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Bali, Indonesia.
Tied at 1-1, Indonesian forward Dwiky Hardiansyah broke the Filipino’s hearts after scoring a screamer in the first minute of added time.
Prior to the match, Kaya posted an impressive 3-1 win over Cebu FC in the Philippines Football League (PFL) last Sunday at the same Laguna venue, boosting their morale as they head into their Shopee Cup match against the Singaporean club.
Kaya FC-Iloilo will be banking on Janjan Melliza and Mark Swainston, who found the net in the last two Shopee Cup games.
Shuto Komaki and Mar Diano are also expected to step up after scoring in Kaya’s PFL win over Cebu.
Melliza said they need to be on the same page if they want to end their Shopee Cup campaign on a positive note.
He also encourages fans to watch them in action in their last international match of the season.
“We just need to motivate one another. We already have a game plan, we just couldn’t distribute the ball,” Melliza said.
“I hope you all support us when we play in the Biñan Stadium. See you all there.”
