Eala suffers double exits in Mumbai Open

Alex Eala's journey in the Mumbai Open came to a halt after bowing out of the women's singles and doubles tournaments Wednesday evening in India.

Eala, 19, suffered a 6-7, 2-6 loss against Mai Hontama of Japan in the Round of 16 in the women's singles.

The No. 137 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, fought for one hour and 42 minutes before losing fo her Japanese foe.

Eala previously pulled off a 6-1, 6-0 win over Japanese Sara Saito in the Round of 32 last Monday.

Eala was also kicked out of the women's  doubles after she and Tsao Chia Yi of Taiwan lost 4-6, 4-6, against Elena Pridankina and Amina Anshba Russia in the Last 16.

Eala and Tsao came up shirt after lasting for 1:45 hours against their Russian foes.

The last time Eala won the both the singles and doubles titles in the same event was back in in July at the W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain.
