Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala whipped Sara Saito of Japan, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to the Round of 16 of the Mumbai Open Monday in India.
Eala, 19, finished the match in one hour as she continued her quest to clinch her first title of 2025.
The two-time Asian Games bronze medalist repeated over Saito after her 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 win last month at the Singapore Tennis Open, her recent tournament.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate made it as far as the Last 16 before losing to Simona Waltert of Switzerland, 3-6, 2-6.
Now. Eala will be going up against the winner between Japanese netters Nao Hibino of Japan and Mai Hontama, who are playing at press time.
Eala entered the Mumbai Open as No. 137 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association rankings.
The three-time junior Grand Slam winner dropped three places from her highest rank of No. 134.
