The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported on Sunday that a major shipment of suspected illegal drugs was successfully intercepted at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Complex I Pasay City.
It was conducted by a joint task force made up of members from the Cargo Police Station AVSEU NCR and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG).
According to the report, the illegal substances were detected when they displayed a suspicious image while being X-rayed by Bureau of Customs (BoC) personnel.
This prompted the operator to immediately alert the NAIA-IADITG for further inspection.
During the physical examination of the shipments, authorities discovered approximately 469 tablets, suspected to be Ecstasy, with an estimated street value of P797,300 and approximately 1,078 grams of a white crystalline substance suspected to be Mephedrone, for which no standard drug price has been determined.
The parcels, declared as three peanut butter jars and skin care products, were shipped from Austria and Ireland and consigned to male recipients in Taguig City and Laguna.
