Filipinas’ 9-day camp set

Philippine national women’s football team head coach Mark Torcaso couldn’t wait to start their nine-day training camp in the country.

Torcaso said this camp will be their foundation for the ASEAN Women’s Championship, the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, and the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games all taking place this year.

The camp will be highlighted by an event on 25 February at the newly-opened Mall of Asia Football Field with an intrasquad exhibition by the Filipinas.

“With the ASEAN Women’s Championship and the Asian Cup Qualifiers taking place midyear, and the SEA Games being held in December, there’s a lot to play for in 2025. This camp gives us a great opportunity to continue building the foundation for the way we want to play,” Tocaso said.

“We cannot wait to be back home to showcase our Filipinas.”

Torcaso and some Filipinas members are coming off a successful campaign in the AFC Futsal Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers last January where they booked a slot for the tournament proper in China this May.

Apart from qualifying for next year’s Asian Cup, Torcaso said their major goals for 2025 are to defend their ASEAN title in Indonesia this June and win the gold medal in the SEA Games in Thailand this December.

“We are focusing on winning the AFF (championship). That’s our big focus. We know that we want to win the SEA Games as well,” Torcaso said.

“Those are two competitions. We know that we can be very, very good at it like our men’s team did recently. So we are very focused on being successful in those two competitions.”
