Calista, the four-piece girl group, is emerging as a refreshing alternative in the vibrant P-pop scene. After their electrifying debut with “Race Car” in February 2022, the group – originally a six-member ensemble – has weathered challenges and emerged stronger.

Now, under Merlion Entertainment, Anne, Dain, Denise and Elle are ready to take center stage with their extended play (EP), “FOUR - Finding Our Unique Rhythm.”

“FOUR” is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a journey into the heart of Calista. Each track reflects the unique personalities of the four members and how their individual strengths blend together as a cohesive unit.

“Pinaghandaan po talaga namin ito para magustuhan n’yo. Nagsama-sama kami sa lahat ng ideas. Team effort po talaga (We really prepared for this album so you will like it. We put all our ideas together. This is really a product of team effort)!” says Anne.

The EP features a diverse range of sounds: the Afrobeat-inspired pop anthem “Alas Dose” showcases their vocal power and infectious energy, while the R&B ballad “LMK (Let Me Know)” allows them to express their deepest emotions. “Bongga Ka Day,” a fresh take on The Hotdog’s iconic hit, pays homage to Filipino music and demonstrates the group’s pride in their heritage. “Oops My Bad” is a playful and cheeky track that highlights CALISTA’s charm and confidence, injecting a dose of fun and energy into the EP. And as a special treat, the hidden track “Wag Na” is a soulful ballad that showcases their versatility.

The road to “FOUR” has not been without its challenges. The departure of members Laiza and Olive in 2023 and early 2024, respectively, tested the group’s resilience. Laiza pursued her studies, while Olive embarked on a new chapter with GMA Sparkle. However, the remaining four members emerged stronger, their bond fortified by shared experiences and a renewed commitment to their music.

“Wala naman po perfect na group, pero lagi namin sinasabi na ang kalaban natin ang sarili natin hindi ang iba (There is no perfect group, but we always say that we are only up against ourselves, not others). We continue to always challenge ourselves to achieve more and be better,” Denise said

A force of four

Anne, the group’s leader and main vocalist, captivates audiences with her soulful and emotionally stirring voice.

Dain, the lead vocalist, commands the stage with her powerful vocals and captivating presence. Denise, the group’s main dancer, ignites the stage with her dynamic moves and infectious energy. And Elle, the group’s visual, may appear reserved at first glance, but her quiet charisma and creative flair leave a lasting impression.

Calista, which stands for “Call It A Star,” is a testament to their unwavering belief in their dreams. Despite the challenges, they have persevered, honing their craft and showcasing their unique blend of talent and personality.

“FOUR” is more than just an EP; it’s a statement. Calista is not just a P-pop group; they are a movement, redefining the boundaries of the genre and inspiring a new generation of artists.
