The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported on Friday that a 53-year-old American national was arrested upon arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City as airport authorities discovered a firearm in his possession during routine security checks.
According to the PNP-AVSEGROUP, a firearm was detected inside a bag pocket as it passed through the X-ray machine. The officer promptly notified the OTS luggage inspector to perform a manual inspection, accompanied by the PNP Aviation Security Group.
The suspect was unable to present any legal documents for the firearm.
After being apprehended for violating Republic Act 10591 and the Omnibus Election Code, the foreign traveler was placed in NPS 3 custody for further legal action.
PNP AVSEGROUP acting director PBGEN Christopher M. Abecia issued a strong warning to the public about the repercussions of violating the 2025 election gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections.
“We urge everyone to take this matter with utmost seriousness and work alongside authorities as we enforce Comelec Resolution 11067. Our goal is to ensure a peaceful, safe, and orderly election process. Violations of the gun ban are serious offenses that carry the potential for arrest and long-term consequences,” Abecia said.
