At least 18,000 job applicants attended the two-day career conference hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and job-finding platform Jobstreet.
Considered the largest career event in the Philippines, DOLE said more than 8,000 job openings and career growth opportunities were available to jobseekers at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay on 28 to 29 January.
The event brought together over 150 employers from major enterprises offering positions ranging from entry-level to senior roles.
In addition to the job fair, the event featured candidate talks and masterclasses, providing job seekers with valuable insights and tips on employment and career development.
The government’s one-stop-shop also offered services from PhilHealth, the Social Security System, the National Bureau of Investigation, a resume clinic, and a resume ID photo booth.
On-the-spot hiring and interviews were also part of the event.
"This is an event that underscores our shared commitment to link Filipino workers with meaningful job opportunities," DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma said in his keynote address.
"Today's theme, 'The Future of Work in the Philippines,' clearly captures the imperative on how we must continuously adapt to a rapidly changing labor landscape shaped by technology, globalization, climate, climate change, and evolving workforce needs," Laguesma added.
The Labor chief also thanked Jobstreet for its continued partnership in organizing job fairs, sharing vital labor market information, and promoting various employment services.
"These efforts have not only helped countless Filipinos find jobs but have also guided employers in sourcing qualified, skilled individuals who can contribute significantly to our nation's economic progress," he added.
During the career con, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. announced that his administration is considering holding monthly job fairs across the country. The move is aimed at sustaining the efforts to lower unemployment, provide quality jobs, and upgrade workers' skills.
