Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are bringing back one of the most famous moments in rom-com history — this time, with a modern twist.

The When Harry Met Sally stars reunited at Katz’s Delicatessen, the same New York City diner where their unforgettable scene took place 35 years ago. The occasion? A Super Bowl commercial for Hellmann’s mayonnaise.

A nostalgic reunion at Katz’s Delicatessen

“I can’t believe they let us back into this place,” Crystal quips in the ad, sitting across from Ryan at their old haunt.

“Why? Nobody remembers that,” Ryan playfully replies.

Much like the original scene, Ryan’s Sally starts out unimpressed with her sandwich — until she adds a generous dollop of Hellmann’s mayonnaise. The simple addition sends her into a delighted frenzy, and soon, she’s reenacting her famous fake orgasm performance.

“This one’s real,” Crystal remarks, grinning as fellow diners take notice.

And just like in the 1989 film, a bystander delivers the unforgettable punchline. This time, it’s Euphoria and Anyone But You star Sydney Sweeney, who steps in to say, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Celebrating 35 years of a rom-com classic

The Super Bowl ad comes as When Harry Met Sally marks its 35th anniversary in 2024. To tease their reunion, Crystal and Ryan even posed for a nostalgic photo reminiscent of the movie’s final scene.

Directed by Rob Reiner, the film follows Harry Burns and Sally Albright, two college graduates who share a car ride to New York City. During their trip, they debate whether men and women can maintain a platonic friendship without romance getting in the way.

One of the film’s most iconic moments unfolds at Katz’s Delicatessen when Sally argues that men can’t tell when women are faking orgasms. To prove her point, she theatrically fakes one in the middle of the diner — stunning Harry and amusing fellow patrons.

Over the years, When Harry Met Sally has remained a beloved classic, earning critical acclaim and cementing itself as one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time. The film earned Meg Ryan a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture and Billy Crystal a nod for Best Performance by an Actor.
