CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The City Hall’s Oro Trade and Investment Promotions Center (Oro-TIPC), in cooperation with the Filipino-Chinese community, officially launched the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration in the city on Monday.
Oro-TIPC Department Manager John Asuncion and Cagayan de Oro Filipino-Chinese Community Chairman Benjamin Chan Jr. announced in a press statement that this year’s festivities will include new activities, such as the Wok of Fortune: Culinary Exhibit on 2 February at Limketkai Mall and a Medical and Dental Mission on 4 February at Limketkai Atrium.
“This year’s Chinese New Year celebration is particularly special as it coincides with the 50th year of friendship between China and the Philippines,” Asuncion said.
The celebration will begin with a ceremonial lighting on Monday, 27 January at 6 PM. A pyro-musical fireworks display will follow on 28 January at 5 PM at Rio de Oro Boulevard. The New Year’s Eve Tradition and Ceremony will cap off the day at 11:00 PM.
On Chinese New Year itself, 29 January, visitors of the Bell Church will receive free tikoy at 10 AM. Dragon boat competitions featuring participants from across the country will take place on February 1 and 2 at Isla de Oro.
Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy emphasized his administration's commitment to supporting the Filipino-Chinese community and celebrating its contributions to Cagayan de Oro City.
