Senator Bong Go has clarified that his earlier inclusion in the Committee Report for Senate Bill No. 1979 was purely procedural, stemming from the secondary referral of the bill to the Senate Committee on Health, which he chairs. He emphasized that this technicality should not be interpreted as an endorsement or active participation in the bill's formulation.
Addressing the matter, Senator Go categorically stated that he neither authored nor expressed any intention to co-author the proposed measure, which seeks to introduce comprehensive sexuality education.
In a joint move, concerned senators, including Senator Go, have formally requested the withdrawal of their signatures from the Committee Report. In a letter addressed to Senate President Francis Escudero, the senators underscored the need for broader consultations with stakeholders to address potential misconceptions surrounding the bill.
The issue has sparked calls for further dialogue to ensure clarity and consensus on the proposed legislation.
