Moonlighting policemen warned

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will not consider the promotion of police officers moonlighting for politicians or election candidates during the 2025 midterm elections.

In an ambush interview on Monday, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil emphasized the importance of maintaining an apolitical and nonpartisan stance among police officers during this period to ensure that law enforcement serves the public impartially.

“We will make sure you won’t get promoted if you’re involved in this situation. If you’re being used by politicians, that shouldn’t be allowed. Let’s not allow ourselves to be exploited,” Marbil warned the entire PNP membership.

The PNP chief also noted that the organization will closely coordinate with the National Security Council and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency to ensure that officers comply with this policy.

Moonlighting refers to a situation where a police officer takes on additional work outside their primary duties, such as providing escort services to private individuals, typically politicians.
