Property developer Megaworld Corp. plans to launch at least two new townships this year — adding over 300 hectares of land to its growing portfolio of integrated developments outside Metro Manila.

The Andrew Tan-led company said over the weekend that the planned developments support ongoing expansion efforts to prop up regional economic growth.

“As we work towards helping cities grow their local economies and provide job opportunities, we are focused on further expanding our township portfolio in the regions. These two townships have expansive land areas which will further boost our land bank,” Megaworld president Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso said.

Meanwhile, Kevin Tan, president and CEO of Alliance Global Group, Megaworld’s parent company, said the move aligns with the group’s vision on tourism.

“Many of these Megaworld townships are drivers of tourism in their respective locations. We build hotels, museums, resorts, malls, sports and leisure facilities, and many other attractions within our townships to support our country’s tourism industry,” Tan said.

Last year, Megaworld launched four new townships covering a combined area of over 300 hectares, a similar scale to this year’s planned projects. These include Lialto Golf and Beach Estates in Lian, Batangas; San Benito Private Estate in Lipa, Batangas; Ilocandia Coastown in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; and The Upper Central in Cagayan de Oro City.

Currently, 69 percent of Megaworld’s townships are located in the provinces, with 16 in Luzon, six in the Visayas, and two in Mindanao. The remaining 31 percent are in Metro Manila.
