Marvic Valentin “Vic” Castelo Sotto, affectionately known as “Bossing,” is more than just a comedic icon. He’s a silent force in Philippine entertainment, a master of his craft who has quietly built a legacy spanning decades.

From his early days as a member of the disco band VST & Company, where he helped popularize hits like “Ikaw ang Aking Mahal,” to his iconic role as one of the founding fathers of the noontime giant, Eat Bulaga!, Vic has consistently entertained generations of Filipinos. His comedic timing is impeccable, and his onscreen presence is undeniably magnetic.

Yet, beneath the laughter and the larger-than-life persona lies a man of quiet strength and unwavering dedication to his craft.

On friendship and longevity

“Joey is a friend whom I treat as a brother, while Tito is a brother whom I treat as my friend,” Vic humbly shares, reflecting on his enduring bond with his Eat Bulaga! co-hosts, Joey de Leon and Tito Sotto. This unique dynamic has been the cornerstone of their success, a testament to the power of genuine friendship and unwavering support.

As Eat Bulaga! celebrates its 46th year on air, Vic reminisces, “We are now on our 46th year in Eat Bulaga!. Mabilis ang panahon. Kailan lang nagsisimula kami, may mga times wala kami sweldo dahil walang benta ang show, pero tiis lang. Pinaghahandaan namin ngayon ang 50th year ng Eat Bulaga! That’s four years from now; pero mabilis na lang ‘yun (Time flies. Seems it wasn’t that long ago we were just starting. There were times we didn’t get paid because the show had no sales, but we bore it. Now we are preparing for our 50th year. That’s four years from now — but that will be so quick),” he said.

This humble acknowledgment of their journey highlights their resilience and unwavering commitment to their craft.

The quiet observer

“I am more of a listener than a talker sa show namin sila Tito, sila Allan K lahat sila mahilig magsalita ako na lang ang makikinig kasi kung lahat kami sabay sabay magsasalita baka kung ano na mangyari doon,” Vic modestly shares. This observation reveals a deeper understanding of his role within the dynamic of the show, a quiet observer who allows the energy of his co-hosts to flourish while maintaining a steady, anchoring presence.

Beyond comedy

Vic has consistently challenged himself, venturing beyond his comedic comfort zone. His recent dramatic role in the film The Kingdom showcased a new facet of his talent, proving his versatility and dedication to his craft. “Ang una ko lagi inaalam ‘yung concept ng movie na gagawin kahit sino okay ako maging leading lady andami magagaling na artista natin ngayon. Kung gagawa pa ako ng kakaibang roles gaya ng sa The Kingdom tingnan natin. Matagal ako di gumawa ng pelikula at di na rin tayo bumabata (Concept for me is very important, my leading lady and costars in a project is not that important because almost all actors nowadays are good in what they do),” he shares, reflecting on his evolving career and the importance of exploring new creative avenues.

On staying strong

“Of course I am very thankful to my family for always being there to support me, my friends in showbiz for being there for me and to my endorsements for trusting me like itong Sante Barley na magaling na produkto. I am very thankful sa kanila at sa inyo (entertainment media). Hindi naman puwede na ‘di ka maapektuhan pero kumbaga ipagpa sa Diyos mo na lang, wala na ‘yun.” he said

This statement speaks volumes about Vic’s character — a man of unwavering faith, gratitude and resilience.

Vic recently joined Santé Barley as its newest brand ambassador, a partnership that aligns perfectly with his commitment to health and wellness. Vic Sotto is more than just a comedian; he is a silent superstar, a true icon whose influence extends far beyond the realm of entertainment.
