TACLOBAN CITY — Government agencies in Eastern Visayas (EV) that are under the security sector have started preparations for the local and national elections in May to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and ensure voter safety.

The Commission on Elections regional office convened the Second Regional Joint Security Control Center Conference on 15 January, at the headquarters of the 8th Infantry Division in Camp Vicente Lukban, Catbalogan City.

The conference focused on reviewing joint operational guidelines and strategies aimed at enhancing security measures, streamlining communication, and addressing potential challenges that may arise during the election period.

Among the attendees of the conference were top officers of 8ID, Philippine Coast Guard Eastern Visayas, Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8), and the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8 (BFP Region 8).

Comelec regional director Remlane Tambuang underscored the essential role of partnerships with the security sector in maintaining peace and security during the elections.

“The Commission on Elections cannot achieve this alone. We need the support of all stakeholders to ensure peace and security in our area, allowing people to leave their homes and vote freely on election day,” Tambuang said.
