Comelec to comply with SC TRO on Erice DQ

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday that it will comply with the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) on its disqualification case agains former lawmaker Edgar Erice.

The High Court announced Tuesday that it is temporarily stopping the Comelec from implementing its order disqualifying erice from running in the 2025 national and local elections.

In a message to reporters, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia acknowledged the ruling, saying its “part of the process.”

“We will have to find a way to comply with the SC directive,” Garcia said.

On 3 January, Comelec declared the disqualification of Erice as “final and executory,” blocking him for running for a House of Represenatives seat in the upcoming polls.

Erice was barred by the poll body for "deliberately spreading false and alarming reports" and circulating "misleading messages to disrupt the electoral process and cause confusion among the voters."

His name would not be included in the official ballot due to the en banc decision.
