The University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) recently honored the life of Deogracias Victor "DV" Savellano during his wake in Quezon City.
On Friday, 10 January, a Certificate of Tribute and the Oblation Statue were presented in recognition of Savellano’s contributions to public service, particularly his dedication to sustainability and community empowerment.
During a brief program, UPAA President and Alumni Regent Robert F. Aranton described Savellano as "a true embodiment of the ideals of honor, excellence, and service" that unite the UP community.
"DV was more than a leader; he was a visionary whose unwavering dedication uplifted countless lives. His heartbeat for the alumni and the University, for causes that empowered communities, preserved our environment, and inspired meaningful change," Aranton said, praising Savellano's pioneering advocacy for bamboo farming and his blend of humility and innovation.
"DV’s legacy is now our responsibility. To his family, we grieve with you, but we also stand in profound gratitude for the gift of his remarkable life. His memory lives on in every alumnus inspired by his mission, every community uplifted by his work, and every life touched by his kindness," Aranton added.
Savellano, who served as Agriculture Undersecretary for Livestock, passed away on Tuesday, 7 January.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed his sympathies to Savellano’s bereaved family, calling him "a true public servant, a dear friend, and someone whose heart always belonged to the people he served."
