ISABELA CITY, Basilan — Police and military authorities in this province are conducting a Joint Security Conference (JSC) outlining the integrated security planning and implementation of the government’s comprehensive security measures starting today, the start of the election period for this year’s midterm polls.

101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade Commander Brig Gen Alvin Luzon said yesterday the joint conference has outlined the integrated security planning and implementation of comprehensive security measures to ensure a total gun ban will be imposed in the entire province.

Luzon said that among those attending the JSC were the Battalion and Company Commanders and police station commanders led by Police Col. Cerrazid A. Umabong, Provincial Director of the Basilan Police Provincial Office.

The JSC was held on Friday at the Headquarters of the 101st Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army, in Barangay Tabiawan in this city.

Luzon said that with the total implementation of the gun ban, the police and military authorities in the province can ensure peaceful and orderly 2025 National and Local Elections.

Law enforcers will conduct checkpoint operations in strategic locations in the province as part of efforts to secure the polls, Luzon said.

As a general rule, only bona fide police, military, and members of government law enforcement agencies in complete uniform and while on official duty are allowed to carry firearms for the entire duration of the election period, Luzon explained.

“For those not included in the executive list of exemptions, they have to apply for a certificate of authority from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) so that they can be exempted,” Luzon added.

Luzon extended his appreciation to P/Col. Umabong for actively participating in the AFP security campaign and reiterated the importance of unified efforts in safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring the integrity of the elections.

“Through close collaboration and seamless coordination between the Armed Forces and the PNP, we can create a secure environment for the upcoming election, allowing the people of Basilan to exercise their right to vote without fear and threats to their security,” Luzon explained.

Umabong reaffirmed the PNP’s commitment to a safe and orderly election process as he expressed his gratitude to the 101st Brigade for being proactive in creating a safe and secure environment for the Basileños.

“The partnership between the AFP and PNP is crucial to ensuring a safe and orderly election process for the 2025 elections,” Umabong said.

The JSC underscores the unwavering dedication and commitment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in protecting the rights and safety of every Basileño.
