DAVAO CITY — The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) will hold a Nationwide Peace Rally set this Monday, 13 January on the city’s key streets with some 300,000 members expected to join at the city-renowned San Pedro Square.

“We expect to have a very huge crowd on that date so we scheduled a dry-run on road closures starting on January 11 and 12 with only partially closed streets. But on January 13 these specific roads will be closed. Streets to which will be used during the INC Nationwide Peace Rally include San Pedro Street, Bolton Street, Pelayo and Inigo Streets, Rizal and Claveria, among them,” said City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) head ret. Col. Dionisio Abude on Wednesday’s Davao Peace and Security Press Corps Forum.

Members of the 20th City Council, under the leadership of Vice Mayor Melchor Quitain, passed a corollary resolution last 7 January during their regular session supporting the Iglesia Ni Cristo Nationwide Peace Rally.

2nd District Councilor Diosdado Mahipus Jr., who authored the resolution, said that the initiative is a manifestation of support for the City of Davao for the efforts of INC in emphasizing peace in the country.

The CTTMO is expected to deploy some 200 personnel while the Davao City Police Office will troop its 400 policemen with its purpose to secure the people in specific streets.

The INC Nationwide Peace Rally will start at 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
