LTO intensifies seatbelt use campaign

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Sunday said it will embark this year on an aggressive campaign for the use of seatbelts as part of its road safety measures.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said he has already instructed all regional directors and district office heads to maximize the use of social media and other mass communication platforms to encourage more motorists to comply with the existing law on the mandatory use of seatbelts.

“Our approach on this matter will be two-pronged: the first is on strict enforcement through the deployment of our enforcers and coordination with other law enforcement agencies. The second one is a massive information drive to make motorists realize the importance of wearing a seatbelt,” Mendoza said.

“This is also part of our Stop Road Crash program, which we will be aggressively pushing this year, under the guidance of Transport Secretary Jaime J. Bautista,” he added.
